Reading the Bible

I thought for this post I would pass along a few helpful tips when reading the Bible...

So often do we get caught up in reading the Bible to acquire more knowledge, to gain an edge in an argument, or simply out of duty. For those of you that try to read scripture in the morning, can you honestly say you remember what you've read by lunch?

To keep this post short and simple:

If your not reading the Bible in hopes of knowing Jesus more, wanting to experience grace and mercy than it could be fruitless.

Theology that doesn't "connect" is a fruitless endeavor.

I think you should always ask two questions after diving into the text: When and how?

For example:

Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
(1 Peter 1:13 ESV)

This passage seems good at 30,000 feet but it needs to get personal for it to have any impact. Once you figure out WHAT the passage is telling you...(put your confidence on grace). Then you must figure out WHEN and HOW you will do this...(Tonight when I'm tempted to boast in myself, my accomplishments instead of the unconditional favor of Jesus)

You should keep a journal close to you to track God's movement in your life.
